I AM STEM Camp is designed to mentor children who are underrepresented in the STEM workforce and equip them with the knowledge, resources, and skills to become scientifically literate and productive citizens.
Children in kindergarten - 12th grades are encouraged to participate (ages 5-18). Parents of young children may need to be present to help them engage meaningfully in virtual lessons/activities.
Weekly newsletters will be sent out to share information about camp.
Registration for camp will open until June 1st or until all spaces are filled.
The groups are separated based on grade level. Participants are exposed to concepts that they will see in the upcoming year.
All courses are age-appropriate and range from the sciences (physical and biological), mathematics (algebra, trigonometry, geometry, and calculus), English language arts, engineering, technology, and other skills (financial literacy, health and wellness, and Black and Latino History). There are virtual field trips and a culminating ceremony. Instructional calendars will be released before camp to share the entire schedule for the 4-week camp.
The instructors are certified teachers, pre-service teachers, informal science educators, STEM instructors, STEM professionals, and professors at partnering institutions.
For virtual participants, a box of supplies will be shipped to your home. Additional household supplies will be needed and supply lists will be provided ahead of time. If your child will attend camp in person, supplies will be at the site to engage in STEM activities.
